John Updike is one of the most well-known authors of the last few decades. In this series of essays, he is making jokes about the world of medicine and the common man's relationship with it.In this particular essay, he mentions that physicians feel that the common man is weak. He also goes on to say that doctors do not feel that the common man can comprehend the problems they are faced with. He goes on to say that, doctors often ask if the common man has ever gone to the hospital and experienced the kind of problems they are facing.John goes onto discuss the relationship between the medicine and the society. The art of medicine is a very personal thing. The medicine of the past was used by the Greeks to help treat common illness, now the medicine is used by doctors for treatment of common illness. The relationship between medicine and society has been changing, but it will not stop.These kinds of essays are extremely important issues to talk about. I have read quite a few of these essays over the years. They are very enlightening and entertaining.Check out his unique essay topics.
